Genesis Energy adopts Gentrack Time of Use Billing

30 August 2010: Gentrack is pleased to announce deployment of its Time of Use billing system at Genesis Energy, giving the utility one integrated system for billing all residential, SME and large commercial customers.

For over ten years, Gentrack solutions have been used to bill and manage Genesis Energy’s residential customers across New Zealand. The decision to innovate its Time of Use (TOU) billing system with an extension of its existing Gentrack Velocity billing engine offered the strongest value proposition according to Jamie Reid, Retail Finance Manager.
“We have achieved considerable success using Gentrack Velocity, especially in the past few years when emphasis on customer service and billing innovation has been key to our competitive strategy. The addition of the interval billing engine to our existing system gives us a complete billing solution with the flexibility to handle a multitude of complex billing and contract management activities. It’s also fully integrated with our CRM so our commercial customers can expect an enhanced level of service.”
Gentrack Velocity’s TOU billing engine was deployed in an eight month project which involved a comprehensive migration of interval data for Genesis Energy’s SME and large commercial customers – each with a unique set of tariffs. The flexibility of Gentrack Velocity and application of new workflow technologies enables Genesis Energy to streamline the setup of complex accounts while also automating complex data validation and bill calculation processes.
“Our existing TOU platform was aging and Gentrack provided a cost effective and low risk option given the recent successful deployment of Gentrack Velocity into our business” said Reid. “Gentrack Velocity was already in place for mass market billing, and Gentrack already had intimate knowledge of our systems and business processes as well as the business drivers for this project, so it was a logical choice. We now have a highly integrated and modern interval billing platform, delivered on schedule and backed by a local Gentrack support team based in Auckland.”
Headquartered in Auckland, Gentrack is experiencing strong local and international demand for its specialist utility billing and CRM systems, said James Docking, Gentrack CEO. “We have recently deployed Gentrack Velocity into a number of utilities worldwide including OVO Energy, the UK’s newest energy retailer, and Dalkia in Ireland, a division of Veolia, and Horizon Power in Perth, Australia. Gentrack Velocity’s pre-pay billing capabilities have also recently been deployed into the cloud for another of New Zealand’s high performing energy utilities.”

“With over 650,000 electricity and gas customers across the country, Genesis Energy is one of New Zealand’s largest energy retailers and is one of our longest serving customers” concluded Docking. “With all its customers now managed through one integrated system, we are looking forward to building on the partnership as Genesis Energy continue to refine its business and technology strategies for the greater benefit of its customers.”
