Gentrack deploys mDATA21 at Horizon Power to Support Smart Grid Initiatives

16 December 2010: Gentrack, a leading provider of smart software solutions for energy utilities, has commenced deployment of its mDATA21 meter data management solution to Horizon Power in Western Australia.

mDATA21 is a specialist meter data management (MDM) system that will enable Horizon Power to capture, validate and share large volumes of meter data with its retail business – replacing its reliance on receiving data from Western Power’s HUB system. The new MDM solution is fully integrated with Horizon Power’s existing Gentrack Velocity billing and CRM system which was deployed last year in what was considered a ‘stunningly successful’ project by Horizon Power’s Managing Director Rod Hayes.

In conjunction with the mDATA21 project, Horizon Power will also deploy Gentrack’s Field Services solution to streamline the allocation and management of Works Orders to further enhance the customer experience and streamline a future rollout of smart metering technologies.

James Docking, Gentrack CEO is pleased with the progress of the project. “mDATA21 will give Horizon Power even greater visibility of their metering and field services activities. The tight integration of this system with Gentrack Velocity enables call centre staff to provide more efficient customer service, with a 360 degree view of a customer’s consumption and any Works Orders affecting customers.”

“These systems are important for Horizon Power as they become increasingly independent in the Western Australia Energy Market, and they look to take advantage of new smart grid and metering technologies. mDATA21 will enable them to tackle these technological challenges head on – providing a strong platform for handling large volumes of data and service related activities.”

Horizon Power was established following the disaggregation of Western Power Corporation and is now a vertically integrated utility, responsible for generating, procuring, distributing and retailing electricity to residential, industrial and commercial customers across Western Australia. The implementation of mDATA21 is Phase 2 of ‘Project Sunrise’ – a business transformation project to improve Horizon Power’s processes and supporting systems, as the company brings more of its previously outsourced services back in-house, including metering services.
