Gentrack hosts Secretary-General of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD)

Gentrack had the privilege of hosting Mathias Cormann, Secretary-General of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), and his esteemed delegation. The visit provided an excellent opportunity for Gentrack to present our vision for the future of green technology and the critical role that government policies play in driving innovation and sustainable practices.

During the visit, our leadership team highlighted the complexities of the global renewable energy market and the importance of supportive government policies in creating an efficient eco-system.

We discussed how smart metering and the government-mandated ‘five-minute settlement’ in Australia’s energy market can significantly enhance grid management and energy efficiency, particularly during peak times. This policy not only improves cost management but also helps in reducing emissions—a crucial step in tackling climate change.

We also explored the concept of virtual power plants and how we have helped our customers productise and enable households to act as both energy consumers and producers. This innovation showcases the potential for decentralised energy systems, which could be a game-changer in the global energy landscape.

The delegation expressed keen interest in how these developments could apply globally, particularly in the EU, as we collectively continue to push the boundaries of what’s possible in greentech.

The discussions reinforced the importance of international collaboration and the need for continued dialogue between governments and the tech industry to drive forward the transition to net-zero.

We’re excited about the role Gentrack will play in shaping a sustainable future and look forward to continuing these important conversations and fostering strong relationships with our international partners.

Thank you to NZTE and New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs & Trade for facilitating the visit.
