Gentrack’s 20/20 Flight Display System goes live at Kansas City International Airport

18 June 2010, Kansas City, USA – Gentrack, developer of the 20/20 Airport Management System, announced today the successful deployment of its Multiple User Flight Information Display System (MUFIDS) and Airport Operational Database (AODB) at Kansas City International Airport.

The three month implementation project included deployment of the 20/20 Message Broker System to facilitate integration of the new 20/20 AODB and MUFIDS with a number of other systems including those used by major airlines such as Delta, Continental and American Airlines. Integration between the 20/20 AODB and flight tracking systems enable Kansas City International Airport to provide airport staff, passengers and visitors real-time arrival and departure information on any of the 300 displays across its three terminals according to Nigel Farley, Airport 20/20 General Manager.

“The flexibility of the 20/20 system architecture and its capabilities has enabled us to extend our product offering to meet a number of the airport’s additional business requirements. For example; being located in ‘Tornado Alley’, the airport is prone to severe localized weather. We have developed messaging systems and an Emergency Zone Control system so that weather warnings can be quickly and easily communicated to different areas of the terminals as weather conditions change.”

Passengers travelling through Kansas City International Airport can also now monitor climate conditions at their destination via a real-time weather feed. And to promote regional tourism,   promotional videos for Kansas City including multi-media content are shown on displays throughout the terminal buildings, all facilitated by the 20/20 display solution.

As prime contractor, 20/20 also oversaw the upgrading of the airport’s PA and voice announcement system that is tightly integrated with the 20/20 AODB.

“This was a very successful project and we are pleased to have supported the airport’s terminal services strategy, bringing added value and peace of mind to everyone using its facilities. We are particularly excited about the potential applications of the 20/20 airport display system – especially as customer’s expectations for real-time content continue to grow.”

Kansas City International Airport is one of the largest airports in the USA, serving over 11 million passengers between mid-America and other U.S. and international destinations via 23 airlines. The airport’s design and modern technology ensure it ranks highly for customer satisfaction and it is regarded as one of the world’s most convenient airports.
