Green energy supplier So Energy and ESB join forces to create a single B2C utilities company running on Gentrack’s technology

Voted top three GB energy supplier by Which?, So Energy have signed a three-year contract renewal with Gentrack for billing software and smart meter data solutions, following merger with ESB. The completed integration of the two businesses sees them come together under the So Energy brand on Gentrack’s next gen technology.

So Energy, who supply 100% renewable electricity and gas to British homes, have been using Gentrack’s billing technology since entering the British energy market as a challenger brand in 2015. The partnership has helped So Energy to maintain high levels of customer service and cost to serve reductions though Gentrack’s streamlined and agile technology solutions.

The company merged with Irish owned supplier ESB Energy in 2021 – combining the knowledge and resources of the two organisations and welcoming new CEO, Monica Collings. Gentrack led the transformation of ESB’s energy customers onto So Energy’s billing platform, maintaining So’s excellent operating results and award-winning customer service.

Underpinned by next generation technology and a wealth of industry expertise, Gentrack’s experienced team has also been providing Assurance Managed Services. This has delivered significant benefits and revenue returned to the business, including preparation of ESB’s historic data, cash recovery of wholesale overcharges back into So Energy, and some of the best front and back-office metrics in the industry.

So Energy CEO Monica Collings said:

‘Following our merger with ESB UK last year under the So Energy brand, we are now one of the last challenger suppliers left in the market, and one that is backed by ESB’s more than 90 years of expertise both in the Irish market but also here in GB. Over the last six years, Gentrack’s technology and industry expertise has brought significant value to our business, contributing to reducing cost to serve. It therefore made sense to continue and grow our partnership with Gentrack to help us deliver on our goals.’

Gentrack’s General Manager UK & Ireland, Geoff Childs, said:

‘We’re delighted to be renewing our partnership with So Energy for another three years. It’s been brilliant to see two companies with different operating models transform into a single green energy supplier offering an outstanding customer experience while maintaining excellent operating metrics. We’re thrilled to continue working with So Energy as they’ve merged with ESB and we’re excited to support them in their green energy mission as their business diversifies.’
