Melbourne Airport increases operational efficiency with latest 20/20 software from Gentrack

18 May 2011 – Gentrack, a leading provider of airport management solutions, announced today the successful deployment of its latest 20/20 Resource Management System (RMS), including extended functionality for check-in desk and baggage belt allocation, at Melbourne Airport. The latest 20/20 Flight Information Management System (FIMS) and Airport Operational Database (AODB) have also been deployed.
Melbourne Airport first installed its 20/20 AODB and FIMS solution in 2001, and extended the system to include 20/20 RMS and Aeronautical Billing in subsequent projects as the airport’s requirements developed. New functionality within 20/20 RMS has been deployed at Melbourne Airport, including new features to support enhanced optimization of check-in desk and baggage carousel resources.
Airport 20/20 General Manager, Nigel Farley, is very pleased with the success of the project. “20/20 has been developed to support airports of all sizes and to grow with them as requirements change. We are pleased to deliver new tools to Melbourne Airport to support operations staff in managing the increasing demand on the airport’s resources.
New functionality within 20/20 RMS is particularly exciting, giving the airport additional tools to streamline the process of allocating resources. Melbourne Airport is now using a sophisticated system to allocate check-in desks based on a set of predefined rules which determine requirements for each flight, for every airline operating from Melbourne.”
Melbourne Airport has experienced continued strong growth since 2002, with a record 27.7 million passengers passing through its terminals in 2010. The increased passenger figures are being driven by significant events in Melbourne such as the Melbourne Cup, Australian Tennis Open, and Melbourne Food and Wine Festival boosting tourist numbers to the city.
